MARCH 2013: 3 Peaks Challenge Wrap-Up

Every March the Victorian Alpine High Country plays host to one of the toughest recreational one day rides around! Bicycles Network Victoria (BNV) put on the Skody 3 Peaks Challenge and what a great festival of cycling it has become.

Sierra Sports & Tours was up there over 9 – 11 March 2013 and we were pleased to host a group of 5 cyclists (all FINISHERS!) and 4 spectators. Our Spanish chef Irene cooked up a storm pre ride with a fabulous carbo loading PAELLA meal which many thought was the x factor!

BNV understandably modified the route due to fires weeks earlier around the Mt Hotham area but the excessively hot temperatures and the replacement climb to Mt Buffalo more than adequately tested us all to our limits. For those looking at a wonderful weekend getaway and a 2014 challenge then mark the 3 Peaks Challenge in your calendar now!

Which of the three (3) Grand Cycling tours would you prefer to witness and cycle live?

GIRO d´ITALIA, TOUR DE FRANCE or LA VUELTA A ESPANA

The Tour de France is by far the biggest spectacle but can also be quite difficult to get access to the professionals and ride the stages. There is always plenty of action and amazing scenery but this also means it can be a rush at times!

La Vuelta (Tour of Spain) in our experience is the easiest to view, has the best weather, the smallest crowds and the most interesting courses, not to mention the most freedom to ride the stage routes. If you want to see professional cyclists and ride stages, go to La Vuelta.

The Giro d'Italia falls somewhere between the other two races as far as fun, watch-ability, and access goes. If you like the mountains then don´t miss the chance to cycle in the Stelvio and Dolomites National Parks. Plus the food and wine is a major drawcard!

During 2013 Sierra Sports & Tours is taking cycling holiday escapes to all of the three (3) grand tours. Please feel free to contact us should you like any tour information or you just have a general question about any of these three fantastic cycling races.

THE
2012 SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE - NOW FOR 2013!

Congratulations to everyone who participated in our events and tours during 2012! We had a great time hosting you all as we travelled along the Camino de Santiago through rural Spain, criss-crossed the Spanish & French Pyrenees, took in key stages of the Tour de France, supported the Australian team at the World Triathlon Championships in northern Spain and witnessed the excitement and passion of La Vuelta (Tour of Spain).
